Gujarat stands at the forefront of India’s chemicals and petrochemicals industry. It hosts the world’s largest crude oil refinery in Jamnagar (Reliance) and India’s largest chemical complex in Dahej (OPaL). The State’s industrial base includes over 500 large and medium units and 16,000 small-scale units, producing more than 6,500 chemical products. It leads in India's petrochemical production (62%), total chemicals production (35%), and chemical exports (38%).

Gujarat is also home to the country’s first operational Petroleum, Chemical, and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) spread over 453 sq. km. The Indian chemicals industry is poised to reach USD 300 Billion by 2030 , driven by increasing demand for specialty chemicals and agrochemicals. Ceramics

Gujarat is a global leader in ceramic production, accounting for 90% of India’s total ceramic products and over 80% of its ceramic exports. The State’s ceramics industry is centered around Morbi, which is the second-largest tile manufacturing zone globally. To boost innovation and capacity, a dedicated Ceramics Park is being developed in Morbi, covering 425 hectares. Gujarat’s ceramics exports play a critical role in India’s overall export economy, making it an essential sector for the State.

The global ceramics market was valued at USD 248.89 Billion in 2023 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.6% from 2024 to 2030. With continued investment in advanced technology and infrastructure, Gujarat is well-positioned to maintain its leadership in ceramics, supported by growing demand domestically and internationally, positioning it as a crucial player in this expanding industry.

Automobile

Gujarat has emerged as a significant hub for the automobile and ancillary industries, attracting major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and a thriving automotive supply chain. Key industrial clusters in Rajkot, Halol, Ahmedabad, and Sanand produce a range of auto components, including castings, machine tools, brass parts, and electric motors.

The State’s automobile exports reached USD 1.48 Billion in FY 2023-24, with major export markets in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the USA, Mexico, and Germany . Gujarat’s strategic location, coupled with its excellent port connectivity through Kandla, Mundra, and Pipavav, makes it an ideal export hub for the automotive sector. As part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) influence area, Gujarat is well-positioned to meet the growing demands of the domestic and global automotive markets. Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices

Gujarat is a globally recognized pharmaceutical hub in prominent segments such as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), formulations, biogenerics, and medical devices. Cities like Vadodara, Vapi, Ahmedabad, and Bharuch are home to leading pharma manufacturing and research companies. Gujarat accounts for 53% of India’s registered medical device manufacturers, and 40% of the country’s pharma machinery production. The State is also a leader in contract research organizations (CROs), contributing to 40% of India's total CROs.

Upcoming projects like a Bulk Drug Park in Bharuch (spread over 2,000 acres) and a Medical Devices Park in Rajkot (covering 250 acres) further bolster the State’s role in the pharmaceutical industry. Gujarat’s conducive business environment and focus on innovation, including AI for drug discovery and advanced manufacturing techniques, provide lucrative opportunities for growth. The State’s focus on pharmaceutical machinery, medical tourism, and contract manufacturing makes it a key player in global healthcare.

Textiles and Apparels

Gujarat is a leading textiles manufacturer, contributing 37% to India’s total cotton production and commanding 35% of the nation’s cotton exports. The State is also the largest producer of synthetic fabrics and accounts for 30% of India’s woven fabric production. Gujarat’s textile industry is well-known for its denim production, contributing 65-70% to India’s total output. With its strong fiber-to-fashion ecosystem, Gujarat supports a fully integrated supply chain, from cotton ginning and spinning to fabric weaving and garment production.

Additionally, Gujarat leads in the export of textiles with export values exceeding USD 5.75 Billion in FY 2023-24. The PM MITRA Park in Vansi, Navsari, is being developed as a major textile park, enhancing the sector’s capabilities. The State’s strong infrastructure, innovation in man-made fibers, and strategic location make it a dominant force in India’s textile and apparel industry, well-aligned with the country’s growing demand and global trends.

Gems and Jewellery

Gujarat is a global leader in the gems and jewellery industry, particularly in diamond processing. The State processes 72% of the world’s diamonds, with 8 out of 10 polished diamonds globally being manufactured in Gujarat. Surat, the heart of Gujarat’s diamond industry, is home to the Diamond Research & Mercantile (DREAM) City, which includes the Surat Diamond Bourse, the world’s largest office building dedicated to diamond trading. Gujarat also contributes 46% to India’s total output in jewellery manufacturing and related articles.

The industry’s success is supported by excellent infrastructure and logistics, ensuring efficient access to global markets. DREAM City, spread across 2,000 acres, is set to further enhance Gujarat’s global prominence in the diamond and jewellery sectors. Gujarat’s dominance in the global diamond industry, combined with its expanding capabilities in jewellery manufacturing, positions it as a key player in the global luxury goods market.
